What Is an Induction and Why Does It Change the Flow of Birth?

An induction is when labor is started medically rather than beginning on its own.
This can happen for many reasons:
• going past your due date
• medical considerations
• provider recommendation
• personal choice
Unlike spontaneous labor, inductions often begin slowly…
with medication, monitoring, and waiting.
The rhythm is different — more gradual, more layered, and often more unpredictable in timing.
Induction Births Often Take Time — And That’s Okay

One of the biggest surprises for families is how long inductions can take.
Hours can pass quietly.
Sometimes even a full day or more.
There may be stretches where:
not much seems to be happening
the room is quiet
you’re waiting for progress
And then slowly…
things begin to shift.
These quieter hours are not empty.
They are part of the story.
What Birth Photography Looks Like During an Induction

During an induction, I document more than just the final moments of birth.
I capture:
• the waiting
• the quiet conversations
• the way your partner supports you
• the small emotional shifts as labor builds
Because inductions tell a slower story.
And within that slower pace…
there is depth.
Connection.
Anticipation.
Strength building over time.
When Things Shift — Active Labor Still Comes

Even though labor begins differently…
active labor still arrives.
The room changes.
The energy shifts.
Your body takes over.
And the story unfolds just as powerfully as any spontaneous birth.
Induction does not take away from your experience.
It simply changes how it begins.
Your Birth Story Still Deserves to Be Told Fully
No matter how labor begins…
your story matters.
Inductions are not “less than.”
They are not less meaningful.
They are simply another path into motherhood.
And they deserve to be documented with the same care, attention, and respect.
